Inbalance grid, a leading electric vehicle charging network operator and technology developer, has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with energy giant ORLEN Baltics Retail. Together, they will develop fast-charging infrastructure across the entire network of ORLEN gas stations in Lithuania. The first stations will be available this month, with the total number of charging points set to reach 174 by mid-2027. Inbalance grid will invest up to 10 million EUR in the project during this period.
The first 4 stations at ORLEN Kalvarijos and ORLEN Kryžkalnis start working in August. By the end of 2025, 74 charging points will be installed at 30 ORLEN petrol stations along Lithuania’s main roads and in major cities. Another 100 charging points will appear by late 2027. Both parties also agreed on further expansion in 2028-29 based on demand and market growth.
Over the next few years, 15 ORLEN gas stations will transform into charging hubs, accommodating not only cars but also trucks and buses. These hubs will initially feature four ultra-high 300kW charging points, with the potential to expand to eight. This transformation will ensure greater availability, increased capacity, and enhanced driver satisfaction when charging at ORLEN locations.
Inbalance grid will be responsible for the design, installation, and management of the charging points, as well as developing integrations with building management and business systems. These integrations will also include on-site checkouts for charging, and eventually the ORLEN mobile app. Preparations for the project are already underway.
Inbalance grid has signed an agreement with the European Commission on funding the electric vehicle charging infrastructure installations under the Connecting Europe Facility financing programme. It is estimated that 2 million EUR will be financed by the European Commission to implement the chargers in the most important Lithuanian TEN-T roads during 2025-2026 period.
Simonas Stankus, CEO of Inbalance grid, states that ORLEN will soon become the most EV-friendly network in Lithuania. The gas stations, which are already excelling at serving local and intercity transport needs, will soon be equipped with the most comfortable charging infrastructure on the market.
“We have agreed on a long-term vision for both passenger cars and heavy vehicles. Therefore, we call out to all transport service companies – ultra-fast charging at ORLEN will be available across Lithuania within a few years, so you can start making plans for the next generation of commercial vehicles,” says Mr. Stankus.
Artur Bugara, Commercial Director of ORLEN Baltics Retail, emphasized that development of charging infrastructure will revolutionize travel for residents and businesses on Lithuania’s main roads.
“ORLEN is implementing a Europe-wide strategy for sustainable energy and next-generation mobility. We are excited to bring one of our most ambitious projects to the Lithuanian market –not just conventional stations, but also charging hubs suitable for heavy commercial transport,” says Mr. Bugara.
According to Artur Bugara, Inbalance grid was chosen due to its proprietary technology and substantial achievements over the past five years, making it the largest Baltic charging network operator with over 800 charging points in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Earlier this year, Inbalance grid took over the management of Via Lietuva’s fast-charging network and began expanding its electromobility infrastructure into Central and Eastern European markets.
